The moon through the trees was stunning. It had pink tinges a little
earlier in the evening, and then turned to a nice shade of orange. My
camera will go up to a 54x zoom, but unfortunately, even with a tripod, I
still can't manage to get things perfectly in focus. Any tips?

I like this picture -I think the fuzziness adds an air of spookiness. I had a consulation with your brother :) We aren't sure if we know how to get a clearere pic - it will be interesting to see what the other people in the group say. Are you using the self timer? Sometimes even on the tripod hitting the button can move the camera. It seems that our cameras have trouble focusing on multiple things when you are really zoomed in. It looks like it has the moon in focus but not the trees - or you would have the trees in focus but not the moon. Other cameras will let you adjust the F stops to help that but not ours - maybe you can experiment with the scene modes - I think they have something for night time...

Yes, I used the timer, but you're right -- it's impossible to get both the moon and trees in focus at the same time. But how about just one of them?! I'd be happier with that!

Linda. If your camera has the capability to bump up the ISO that's what needs to be done. ISO around 600 or 800 would probably help.
