I hunt for shells and find these birds to be funny. This end of the beach is truly a Maine beach - rocky and rough.

I'm curious to know what the purple stuff is, almost looks like some sort of flower.

seaweed - of all different sorts - Northern beaches are rougher than southern ones and the stuff that washes up is entirely different, so the seaweed can be any color from a bright orange red, to a dull green brown. Because of the storms there are lots of tasty pieces hidden in the seaweed - bit of crabs and lobsters...fish, sea snails and clams...
