Linda (or anyone!) can you tell me what these are? A lot of people have them here, and they seem to grow really well. I'd love to plant them so they can grow up my front porch...but I don't know what they are.

Yep -- clematis. Around here (in the Midwest), they'll come back every year, and you can get them in a wide variety of colors (try Lowe's).

Thank you! The most common one here is definitely this purple. It's so rich and dark. I love it. Should I plant them now, or wait until next spring?

Dark purple like that is probably the Jackmani variety. I have one and love it! I've got 3 or four other varieties too!

They like their feet (roots) cool but the rest can be hot. I put shards of pottery around the roots.
